Setting standards that effectively protect minors in digital environments
Over the past 10 years, WFA and IARD have closely collaborated to develop new responsibility standards for online alcohol advertising, supporting the UN’s goals to reduce harmful alcohol consumption. As a result of this cooperation, and with the backing of major social media platforms, advertisers have gained better tools to ensure their ads reach only adult audiences, whether on social media, the open web, or through influencer partnerships.
Despite these efforts, governments and public health advocates worldwide are calling for alcohol advertising bans and dismissing self-regulation efforts as ineffective. Some parts of the World Health Organization (WHO) promote the concept of “no safe level of alcohol consumption,” and the Global Alcohol Action Plan 2022-2030 (GAAP) calls for alcohol brands to “refrain from promoting consumption” altogether.
THE WEBINAR IS FREE FOR OUR BRAND MEMBERS!
With the UN General Assembly meeting next year to agree on a political declaration on preventing Non-Communicable Diseases, we want the contribution and role of the private sector to be recognized. How can we work together to position advertising self-regulation as part of the solution? How can we demonstrate our commitment to helping protect minors in an increasingly complex digital environment?
Join us for a discussion on the future of alcohol advertising standards on 6 February at 8am London | 4pm Singapore | 7pm Sydney (Other time zones) to learn about IARD’s global standards and explore opportunities for action in the APAC region.
